History of GBC

Grace started approximately six years ago. Several families began to meet together and pray about starting a church in this area. In that first meeting there were four families. They sat in a circle in the back yard of one of our current elder’s homes to prayerfully consider the possibility of beginning a new assembly in the Gatesville, TX area. After this initial meeting the group committed to continue praying and seeking God’s desire regarding the possibility of going forward with the inception of a new assembly in Gatesville. After much prayer, a few families decided to begin a Christ centered assembly that became known as Grace Bible Church.

Initially, the group did not know what to expect with regard to attendance. Further, none of the families involved knew what God had in mind in the future they simply desired to pursue Christ in faith. This initial group of families began looking for a meeting place and stumbled upon an abandoned church building in the Turnersville area. For over 100 years Liberty Baptist Church (LBC hereafter) met in a building on CR 238. LBC eventually dissolved and the building was left vacant for approximately ten years. One of the committed Grace Bible Church members contacted some of the former members of LBC to ask about the possibility of worshiping in the abandoned building. With their blessing, in July of 2002 the group held their first corporate worship service at the building. By this time, several other families had heard of Grace and decided to join this new assembly.

I was privileged to come into an assembly in which God’s people are believing his promises and earnestly treasuring the Savior. What started with a few families and a desire to glorify our great God has grown beyond the wildest imagination of the founders a few years ago. May God continue to bless his work by building his kingdom by means of the good news of Christ in central Texas and beyond to extend to the church worldwide.

For Christ and His Church,

Perry Garrett (Pastor-Elder)
